Q: What is the ruling on mystery boxes? For example, if I buy a box for R100, but the items inside may be worth more or less?

A: A general principle of sale is for the item or goods to be known without ambiguity. If there is any uncertainty, then the uncertainty should not be to the extent that has the potential of leading to dispute. If this potential exists then such a sale would not be acceptable.
