Q. My brother was accredited for Hajj last year and again this Qyear but refuses to go for Hajj - despite having the means
and physical ability to do so. Can Hajj Badal be performed on his behalf?
A: Hajj Badal (Hajj performed on behalf of someone) can Aonly be made for a person who has passed on or someone
who is physically unable to perform Hajj and does not expect to recover e.g. permanent paralysis or chronic illness that
incapacitates one and renders him incapable of physically undertaking journey of Hajj.
Hence, in your brother's case, Hajj Badal cannot be performed for him since he has the means and ability to perform the Hajj
himself. He should be encouraged to perform the Hajj by advising him of great virtues and blessings of performing Hajj as well as be
admonished by advising him of the dire warnings and harms of not performing his Fardh Hajj. A copy of Fadhaail Hajj (The Virtues of Hajj) may be given to him which has this information.
